With its numerous sights which are spread on an area of 7,692,000 km², Australia, which is about 14,500 km away from Germany as the crow flies, is a popular holiday destination. One of the highlights is the International Congress Centre (ICC) in Sydney. After demolition of the former Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre in December 2013, construction of the new building started in 2014. Apart from an estimated 32,000 m³ of concrete and other construction materials, modern heating and cooling technology from Olsberg was installed, too.

The construction was completed in December 2016 and Australia’s first and largest congress, exhibition and entertainment centre was opened. Especially in premises where different events take place, the climate conditions are of major importance. Control and regulating valves for hydronic balancing of the cooling system where installed to guarantee maximum efficiency.

Hydronic balancing with pressure independent control valves “Cocon

The series “Cocon QTZ, QTR and QFC” sized DN 15 up to DN 125 were installed. All valves are used for automatic hydronic balancing of the installation and from temperature control of the terminal units. The calculated flow rate is set with the help of the handwheel. The valves are additionally equipped with actuators. A total of about 1,000 valves of the “Cocon” series were installed in the ICC.

Efficient regulation of the risers with “Hydrocontrol” valves

Apart from the volume flow control at the individual cooling elements, double regulating and commissioning valves of the “Hydrocontrol” series sized DN 15 up to DN 150 were installed. Hydronic balancing of the individual risers could be carried out with the help of the models “Hydrocontrol VTR and VFC”. The calculated flow rate respectively the pressure loss for each individual riser is set precisely which allows for an efficient operation of the installation.
