The Peruvian town of Tochache is located about 450 km from the capital Lima. With its 26,000 inhabitants, Tochache is the capital of the province Tocache in the San Martin region. A new hospital, the “Hospital de Tocache”, was built in 2013. The four-storeyed building offers a useable floor area of 12,000 m².

As the use of renewable energies was a central requirement during refurbishment in 2018, the decision was taken to install a thermal solar plant for hot potable water preparation. 20 highly efficient Oventrop solar collectors “OKF-MQ 25” were installed on the available areas. The computer controlled and monitored loading of the buffer storage cylinder is taken over by two “Regusol X” stations which allow for an optimum use of solar energy.

As 21% of the energy required for hot potable water preparation is provided by the solar plant, only 79% of the energy has to be provided by fossil fuels (here by gas). As a result, the operating costs are reduced and about 22,000 kg CO2 are saved per year.
