Comfortable temperatures in the middle of the desert

The highest number of skyscrapers exceeding 300 metres, the third largest airport in terms of passenger volume, the ninth largest port in terms of container handling and number 19 in the ranking of the most important financial centres in the world – Dubai surprises with its architecture and economy. Every year, the capital with its 3 million inhabitants of the eponymous emirate welcomes 15.3 million visitors. Since 2016, the world-class multifunctional cultural centre, the Dubai Opera, welcomes culture enthusiasts from all over the world.

The Dubai Opera was designed by the Danish architect Janus Rostock (Atkins) in the shape of a traditional Arabic sailing ship, a Dhow. In “theatre mode”, the Dubai Opera is suitable for concerts seating up to 2,000 people and for gala dinners seating up to 1,000 people. In “flat floor mode”, the building allows to also host a variety of events such as weddings, trade shows, art galleries and exhibitions, receptions and parties. The impressive rooftop restaurant and sky garden offers a magnificent view of the Dubai Fountain and the world’s tallest building, Burj Khalifa.

Visitors of the Dubai Opera enjoy culture, architecture and a magnificent view - perfectly air-conditioned even with outside temperatures of 40 °C and more - not least thanks to the smart systems of the company Oventrop.

Precise cooling with Oventrop valve systems

Pressure and flow control in the complex cooling circuits is carried out with the help of Oventrop double regulating and commissioning valves “Hydrocontrol VTR and VFC” and differential pressure and flow regulators. An exact and constant cooling of all rooms is guaranteed by the Oventrop products even in case of load changes and during low demand periods. The supply of the individual risers according to requirements is ensured by the Oventrop double regulating and commissioning valves “Hydrocontrol VTR and VFC” as well as the differential pressure and flow regulators.

Increased volume flows in the connected terminal units are avoided by reducing excessive differential pressure with the help of the differential pressure regulators. The required flow can be controlled and set exactly and an equal supply of all terminal units in the cooling circuit is guaranteed this way.

The importance of a precise control is reflected by the impact of incorrect flow rates in the risers on the energy consumption. If the flow rates are incorrect, the underprivileged terminal units are only supplied sufficiently if the privileged terminal unit are oversupplied and are cooled by about 1 °C too many which results in a significant increase of the energy costs by 15 %.

Gate valves, strainers, ball valves, non-return check valves and butterfly valves are also used for different applications.
