Australia is about 14,500 km away from Germany as the crow flies. With numerous sights spread over 7,692,000 km², the country is considered a sought-after holiday destination. One of the highlights is the International Congress Centre (ICC) in Sydney. After the demolition of the former Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre in December 2013, construction of the new building began in early 2014. In addition to an estimated 32,000 m³ of concrete and other building materials, state-of-the-art heating and cooling technology from Olsberg was also used.

In December 2016, the construction work was completed and Australia's first and largest congress, exhibition and entertainment centre was opened. Especially when it comes to venues that are confronted with different events, the climatic conditions must be given special importance. In the congress, exhibition and theatre area of the of the ICC, pressure independent control valves have therefore been used for the hydronic balancing of the cooling systems to ensure the highest possible efficiency, 

Hydronic balancing with Cocon pressure independent control valves

The Cocon QTZ, QTR and QFC series in the dimensions DN 15 - DN 125 were used. All products are used for automatic hydronic balancing and for temperature control of the consumers. The calculated flow rate is adjusted by means of a handwheel. In addition, the components are equipped with an actuator. A total of around 1,000 valves of the Cocon series were installed in the ICC.

HydroControl double regulating and commissioning valves ensure efficient riser regulation

In addition to the volume flow control at the individual cooling elements, HydroControl double regulating and commissioning valves in nominal sizes DN 15 - DN 150 were also installed. In this way, the risers could be hydraulically balanced among each other with the help of the VTR and VFC variants. The calculated volume flow or pressure loss is centrally pre-regulated and precisely set for each individual riser. Thus, the building is optimally equipped for efficient operation.
